Five Ingredients. One Decision.

Not all body oils are equal.
Ours starts differently.

Most body oils are built around whatever is cheapest, most available, or most marketable. Ours is built around one question: what does skin actually need? Five ingredients. No fillers. No compromise.

The Answer Begins With Olive Squalane

What is olive squalane — and why does it matter?

Your skin already makes it. That is the starting point.

Squalane is a purified, stabilised form of squalene — a lipid your body produces naturally as part of your own sebum. It is not exotic. It is not imported from somewhere unfamiliar. It is something your skin has always known how to use, because it has always made it itself.

Olive squalane starts with the squalene naturally found in olive fruit. A process called hydrogenation stabilises it completely — making it odourless, colourless, and shelf-stable without any change to its essential character. No sharks. No synthetics. Just olive.

The result is a cosmetically perfect ingredient that behaves exactly as your own skin’s lipid does: it integrates rather than sits, replenishes rather than coats, and absorbs in the time it takes to put a towel down.

For skin in its 30s, 40s and beyond

Replenishing what time takes

Squalene production declines steadily from your late 20s onward. By your 40s, levels have dropped considerably — and your skin reflects it. Tightness after washing. Dryness that no lotion fully resolves. Fine lines that appear not from age alone, but from a skin barrier no longer holding moisture the way it once did.

Squalane replenishes directly what time and biology have been quietly removing. Applied consistently, users report lasting softness, improved fine-line appearance, and a skin-comfort they had forgotten was possible.

For younger skin too

Protecting what you still have

Younger skin produces squalene — but modern life depletes it relentlessly. Hot showers. Harsh cleansers. Central heating. Air-conditioning. Pollution. Every one strips the skin’s natural lipid layer faster than it can replenish.

For acne-prone and oily skin especially, squalane is one of the very few oils with a comedogenic rating of zero — meaning it does not block pores. It can actually reduce surface oiliness over time as depleted sebum levels are restored. Starting barrier support early is not indulgence. It is intelligence.

“Squalane does not block pores. It does not trigger breakouts. For oily and acne-prone skin, it may be the only body oil that genuinely helps.”

The Honest Comparison

Why most body oils fall short

Walk into any pharmacy or department store and you will find hundreds of body oils. Most share the same logic: start with a cheap base oil, add something photogenic, add a fragrance, call it luxury. The problem is not that these ingredients are harmful. The problem is that they were chosen for their story, not their skin science.

Sweet almond oil is pleasant but dominated by oleic acid — a fatty acid that sits heavily on the surface and, in sensitive or compromised skin, can actually impair the skin’s own barrier over time.

Coconut oil is the most aggressively marketed natural skincare ingredient of the last decade. Its antimicrobial credentials are real. So is its comedogenic rating — one of the highest of any commonly used oil. The evidence is considerably thinner than the marketing suggests.

Argan oil is genuinely useful, with a sensible fatty-acid profile. But every premium brand already uses it. It differentiates nothing.

Squalane is different not because it is exotic but because it is exact. It is the only plant-derived oil that structurally matches what your skin already produces. No other oil does this.

Honestly

What it actually does

Not promises. Not directions for use. What the skin science says, plainly.

Fine Lines

Visibly reduces the appearance of fine lines

Fine lines are not just a sign of age — they are a sign of dehydration. When the skin barrier is compromised, moisture escapes continuously (transepidermal water loss), and the surface becomes drier and more lined. Squalane reduces this moisture loss at the barrier level. The result, with consistent use, is plumper, more settled skin — particularly on the neck, décolletage, and upper arms.

Breakouts

Supports clearer skin, not the opposite

Many breakouts on the body are caused or worsened by oils that block pores, or by the skin’s own overproduction of sebum in response to a depleted barrier. Because squalane is skin-identical and non-comedogenic, it does not trigger breakouts. It may reduce them — by calming the sebum overproduction that occurs when the skin senses its lipid supply is running low. For chest, back, or shoulder skin, squalane is the exception.

Economy of Use

A little genuinely goes a long way

This is not a marketing phrase — it is a function of molecular efficiency. Because squalane is skin-identical, a small volume covers a large surface area, spreads with unusual ease, and absorbs completely without residue. Three to five drops covers the full length of an arm; ten to fifteen is sufficient for the entire body. A 50ml bottle lasts a month or more of daily use.

Absorption

Gone in 90 seconds. Working for hours.

Apply it and it is gone — completely — within 60 to 90 seconds. No film. No grease. No transfer to clothing or bedding. The speed is not weakness; it is evidence that the skin recognised it. Squalane integrates into the intercellular lipid spaces of the stratum corneum, reinforcing the barrier from within. The effect lasts for hours after the last trace has disappeared.

The Sunnah Foundation

The science arrived at an answer the tradition already knew.

“Eat olive oil and anoint yourselves with it, for it comes from a blessed tree.” Recorded by al-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah

The olive is mentioned directly in the Qur’an. In Surah al-Noor, Allah swears by the blessed olive tree — a tree neither of the East nor of the West. The prophetic tradition extends this reverence into practice: olive oil for nourishment, for healing, for the care of the body.

We did not choose olive-derived squalane for the story alone. We chose it because it is, objectively, the finest carrier available for a body oil of this kind. That it comes from the blessed olive is not a coincidence we take lightly. In Islamic tradition, the body is an amanah — a trust placed in your care. To tend to it well, with what is pure and what is proven, is itself an act of gratitude.

A Fair Question

Wait — doesn’t olive oil block pores?

It is a fair question, and one worth answering directly rather than hoping you won’t ask it. Olive oil, used undiluted or at high concentration, is predominantly oleic acid — a fatty acid that can, for some skin types and at significant volume, be comedogenic. This is well-documented. It is the reason we use olive oil as a supporting ingredient at a carefully controlled, minor percentage — not as the base of the formula.

The dominant ingredient — the overwhelming majority of the formula — is squalane, which has a comedogenic rating of zero. The olive oil is present to contribute its genuine emollient warmth and its natural polyphenols, and because its presence connects this formula to the prophetic tradition in a meaningful way. But it sits at a level where its oleic content is cosmetically negligible.

Think of it this way: a teaspoon of olive oil in a litre of water would not make the water oily. Our formula works on the same principle — the squalane leads, the olive oil complements, and the percentage of each is a deliberate decision made with precisely this concern in mind. This is what we mean by the Sunnah Edit: not a recreation of the past in modern packaging, but a meeting of tradition and evidence. The wisdom was always there. The science has simply caught up.

An Honest Price

Why this formula and not another?

If squalane is so effective, why don’t other brands build their formulas around it? Some do — but rarely as the hero ingredient, rarely at meaningful concentration, and rarely from olive. The more common pattern is to list squalane near the bottom of a 30-ingredient INCI: present enough to mention on the front of the bottle, too diluted to do anything material.

The answer is economics. Olive squalane costs significantly more per litre than sweet almond, sunflower, or a mineral oil base. When a brand is formulating to a £3–5 unit cost, building around squalane does not work financially. So the squalane goes in last, in a token amount, while the cheap base carrier does the actual volume.

We made a different calculation. The right formula at an honest price is better than a compromised formula at a competitive one. The Sunnah Edit costs what it costs because it contains what it contains. Every penny goes into the formula. Five ingredients also means five chances for your skin to react — not forty. A formula this short is not a limitation. It is a relief.

Honest Answers

The questions worth asking

“I’m in my 20s. Is this relevant to me?”

Very much so. Modern life depletes squalene at any age — hot showers, harsh soaps, pollution, and central heating all strip your natural lipid layer faster than it replenishes. And building barrier support early genuinely slows the rate of visible ageing. The people who look after their skin in their 20s and 30s are the ones who feel the difference in their 40s and 50s.

“I have acne-prone skin. Is it safe?”

Squalane is one of the only oils recommended for acne-prone skin. Its comedogenic rating is zero — meaning it will not block pores. The olive oil in the formula sits at a deliberately controlled minor percentage, making any comedogenic risk negligible. For skin that has reacted to other body oils in the past, this formula is specifically designed to be the exception.

“Will it actually reduce my wrinkles?”

Honestly: not in the way a retinol or AHA would. What squalane does is address one of the primary causes of visible fine lines — a compromised moisture barrier. Dehydrated skin shows lines; hydrated, barrier-supported skin shows fewer of them. With consistent daily use, users typically report fine lines becoming less visible. The mechanism is barrier repair, not cell-level resurfacing. Real and meaningful, but honest about what it is.

“How little is ‘a little goes a long way’?”

Three to five drops covers a full arm. Ten to fifteen drops is genuinely sufficient for the entire body. The key is applying to slightly damp skin immediately after bathing — the oil seals in residual surface moisture and spreads far more efficiently than on dry skin. Most people overapply on first use, adjust within a few days, and find a 50ml bottle lasting four to six weeks of daily use.

“It absorbs so fast — how do I know it’s working?”

The speed is the answer. When a foreign oil is applied to skin, the skin holds it at the surface — you feel it sitting there. When squalane is applied, the skin draws it in because it recognises it. Rapid absorption is not evidence it vanished. It is evidence it was accepted. The barrier effect continues working for hours after the last visible trace has gone.

“This is not a body oil for people who want to feel pampered for five minutes. It is for people who want their skin to feel genuinely, lastingly better — and who are done with formulas built around a marketing story rather than a skin one.”

We started with the skin science. We found the ingredient with the strongest evidence, the greatest tolerability, and the most direct relationship to what skin actually depletes. We kept the formula to five things because anything else would have been noise. And then we grounded it in something older than any laboratory — a tradition that understood the intelligence of the olive long before dermatology had a word for squalene. The science and the Sunnah arrived at the same answer.

That is The Sunnah Edit.
